Music Tag

The Soultress has tagged me so here we go:

"List seven songs that you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to."

1. Chuck Brown "Woody Woodpecker"--Some days I miss home, so it's good to listen to the Godfather and the rhythm instantly takes me back home.

2. "Wear It Out"--Gerald Levert--This is from the "Stroke of Genius" album. The title says it all, so there is no explanation needed.

3. "Da' Butt"--EU----Got to love this song!! For your young people, this song came off of The School Daze soundtrack.

4. "Stepped on My J'z" (Nelly/JD)--....trying to avoid the rotten tomatoes thrown my way. I know I know, before you say anything....I like the song, it's quite catchy, and I know MJ cut a nice check to Nelly for this one!!

5. "Round and Round"(LSG) This album was slept on! There are some serious tracks on this album and I am glad R Kelly didnt make the cut because I don't the group would not have the same chemistry.

6. "Soon and Very Soon" (Andre Crouch)--I have a gospel playlist on the Ipod and I try to get some gospel in before work and this songs seems to get in on many mornings.

7. "Brooklyn" (The Fuzz Band)---This is a jazzed up tune by my peeps from HU. If you don't know about the The Fuzz Band and I am going to need for you to google!!

Soulstress...now you can stop cutting your eyes at my outdated blog!! LOL

When Is Enough....Enough?

How much am I supposed to let go before I say something?
How much do I harbor inside before I let go and let the ghetto side prevail?
How many more dirty looks do you need to give to get your point across?
If you don't have anything nice to say, is it best to say nothing at all?

They questions have been spinning in my head for a long time now and I don't know what else to do before the anger spills out. Trying to stay busy, focusing on the things/people I love, and cleaning is just not working these days. I think the recent heat wave and the present state of economy is also pressing on me. But for now, I will do my best to keep the peace. Please pray for a brother!

Laker And Celtics....A Rivalry Renewed!!

Picture this: Magic Johnson is coming down the middle and on the lanes you have Michael Cooper on the left and James Worthy on the right. Magic looks at Dennis Johnson while he dishes a behind the back pass to Worthy. Do you remember the battle down low between Robert Parrish and Kareem Abdul Jabbar? How about the baddest White man ever to lace some basketball sneaks...Larry Bird? Fast forward about two decades and now we have Kobe Bean Bryant who is finally understanding the team concept, the big 3 of Boston of KG, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen. With a new cast we have a renewed rivalry. I am looking forward to seeing how this matchup pans out.

Stay Tuned....

Have a good weekend!

PS Thank you for staying on me about my writing. I will do better, just don't fail anymore of my tests :)

Yes We Can

Well, I guess that its official. Hilary has conceded from the race and Barack Obama will take the Democratic nomination. I am going to tell my age, but I do remember when Jesse Jackson ran for president but I just don't think it was of this magnitude. Never in a million years, could I imagine in my lifetime to seeing an African American having a legitimate chance to run this country.

What are your thoughts? I am pulling for Barack but man to man, whether it is Barack or McCain, it is going to be a tough, uphill battle for the future president. Our fearless leader has put his precedessor in such a wonderful position its going to be quite interesting how the next president reacts to the pressure. On every imaginable level, the country is in shambles and we need change, so with Barack Obama, yes we can turn this whole thing around. Yes we can!! Good luck my brother!

Out Of Sight... Out Of Mind?

Is the old addage really true? If its out of sight then it's really out of mind? I don't know but it seems like some people go by that. Especially when you have two people that are in long distance from each other. The only thing you can do is hope that is your friendship is strong enough to maintain through the rough patches, otherwise it may best to let go of the past and just remember the good times. Life is too short to dwell on things. I am happy with most of everything that is going on with my life and it would be cool to share that with close friends but maybe it just isn't mean't to be.. or just out of sight...out of mind...

It's Gonna Be A Stone Gas Honey!

Even though the writer strike is over, TV is still pretty terrible. So, its good that there is some nostalgic shows to watch, one of those shows being Soul Train. I grew up on Soul Train, so its so cool to see these episodes again and just sit back reminisce. From Don Cornlieus' smooth baritone voice, the Asian lady with the long hair, the guy with the never ending collection of masks, the tall light skin brother who had all the Michael Jackson dance moves to a T. Ahh, the memories!

Beyond the fashion statements, and the horrible attempts of lip-syncing, one of my favorite parts of the show has to be the Soul Train line. What is your favorite memory from Soul Train?

With the repeats being broadcast, I can go back and complete my music collection with the help of Itunes. For example, I found "Satin Soul" by Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra. So, when you get the chance, go back in time and watch a Soul Train show...it will be a stone gas!! Love...Peace.......and Soulllllll!!!

If This Is Not A Recession.....What Do You Call It?

I thought I was taught if it there are two consecutive quarters of no growth, (GDP, GNP whatever it is lol) it should be considered to be a recession. That's was my understanding. I am telling my age but I do remember the recession of the 1990's but this one seems to be more intense....

Everything is sky high: from gas, eggs, milk, cheese to the terrible housing bust, the economy is awash across the board. I respect Congress' attempts to revive the economy with these economic stimilus checks but most consumers will strive to be savvy and probably try to save the money. We don't know how long we are going to be in this funk, but I have heard that Wal-Mart stores will be cashing checks for cusotmers at no charge, making it easier for consumers to spend, spend, spend! What are you going to do with your check?

If this isn't recession, what would you like to call it. Increased crime, along with the morale of the country is really at the nadir. Being that we are in the information age, this crisis will be easy to keep up...stay tuned!!
