It's Gonna Be A Stone Gas Honey!

Even though the writer strike is over, TV is still pretty terrible. So, its good that there is some nostalgic shows to watch, one of those shows being Soul Train. I grew up on Soul Train, so its so cool to see these episodes again and just sit back reminisce. From Don Cornlieus' smooth baritone voice, the Asian lady with the long hair, the guy with the never ending collection of masks, the tall light skin brother who had all the Michael Jackson dance moves to a T. Ahh, the memories!

Beyond the fashion statements, and the horrible attempts of lip-syncing, one of my favorite parts of the show has to be the Soul Train line. What is your favorite memory from Soul Train?

With the repeats being broadcast, I can go back and complete my music collection with the help of Itunes. For example, I found "Satin Soul" by Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra. So, when you get the chance, go back in time and watch a Soul Train show...it will be a stone gas!! Love...Peace.......and Soulllllll!!!

If This Is Not A Recession.....What Do You Call It?

I thought I was taught if it there are two consecutive quarters of no growth, (GDP, GNP whatever it is lol) it should be considered to be a recession. That's was my understanding. I am telling my age but I do remember the recession of the 1990's but this one seems to be more intense....

Everything is sky high: from gas, eggs, milk, cheese to the terrible housing bust, the economy is awash across the board. I respect Congress' attempts to revive the economy with these economic stimilus checks but most consumers will strive to be savvy and probably try to save the money. We don't know how long we are going to be in this funk, but I have heard that Wal-Mart stores will be cashing checks for cusotmers at no charge, making it easier for consumers to spend, spend, spend! What are you going to do with your check?

If this isn't recession, what would you like to call it. Increased crime, along with the morale of the country is really at the nadir. Being that we are in the information age, this crisis will be easy to keep up...stay tuned!!

Going Back Home...Pirate Roundup

A friend has pretty much scolded me for not keeping up with this blog, so I figured I better get typing before I get reamed for real! A lot of good, positive things have been happening for me, which I feel good about. I got a chance to go back home (Wash. DC area) to see Moms, my bros for life, and just take it easy. My mother was quite happy to see me, as well as the boys. We didn't get into too much trouble lol!! It was just good to go back to where it all started, reminisce, and appreciate the current stage of life you are in.

The power of the mighty internet...There is a new alumni website for my college called the pirateroundup.com. Whomever created this addictive website, knew exactly what they were doing lol! Overall, I think it is a wonderful idea, and I have gotten the opportunity to reconnect with my peeps that I have lost touch with over the years. It is so interesting to see some of your friends all grown with families, responsibilities, etc. There are some folk on there by which I wasn't happy to see, but I won't go into that...

Well, I am back, and I going to make a more conscious effort to stay consistent on this thing because it really clears my mind in the crazy world we live in these days!!

Spring Is Here!!

Finally had to go outside and cut the grass. I didn't want to be "that house", who still hasn't cut their grass! Cutting the grass is always a crap shoot because you never know if you have gas in the mower, or even if the mower is going to work. I don't know what's going with me but since I went out there and cut the grass, my skin has been itching and I got a little sunburned. I really don't understand that...but along with the allergies, weeds, bugs, and longer days...I am still glad that Spring is here. I guess I will finally have to get some sunblock lotion. I have never used that ever in my life...when I get that, maybe I will invest in that George Foreman outdoor grill, and start really enjoying the outdoors!!

Marvin Pentz Gay

Today marks the birth of one of the greatest Soul singers to ever grace us. Marvin Gaye has to be one of the smoothest brothers to ever go behind a microphone. Even though his life tragically ended by his father, his music still lives on today. "I Want You", "Let's Get It On", "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" and "After The Dance" are some of my favorites. What are some of yours? Any true singer in today's music scene always say that this man was a major influence. Marvin Gaye, we miss you brother!

Slash and Guitar Hero

As a former marketing major, I really appreciate a good commercial. I am not a gamer anymore these days but the commercial for Guitar Hero with Guns N Roses guitarist Slash, is one of the coolest commercials I have seen in a while (besides the lizards dancing to Thriller:)) I was a big fan of GNR, so to see Slash work it out on the guitar was bananas. I have a link for you in case you haven't seen it yet:

The Barbershop

Time is moving at a rapid pace. The way that I know that is that my son is getting used to getting a haircut without crying anymore. Yes, the barber and I have to calm him down with a lollipop, but he is more relaxed when he gets in the barber chair. He is laid back and even putting his killer smile on the lady across the way who is braiding hair. It is quite amazing how quickly he has grown: following most of my directions, talking, telling me what he wants, and developing his own personality. I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for him. Now that he is about to hit the terrible 2's, I am going to have to hone in that energy with either some sports, or music. I will keep you updated on that lol...

Thanks to a dear friend, I now have the opportunity to incorporate some music in my entries. This first song is dedicated to a dear friend that I missed the last couple of days. Welcome back from your southern trek, I missed talking to you. I chose this song to let this person know that I listen to more than that MJ tape you gave me :) Enjoy....
