Other Options You Have Beyond The Radio/I Feel Cheated!

If you are sick of mainstream radio as I am, I just wanted to make you aware that you do have options and I just wanted to present some radio alternatives your way:

Yahoo Music

One of my favorite sources of music. You can create your own radio station based on your ratings. I have my radio station link below for you to check out:

Pandora Music

I love this site because it's in the same format as other Internet radio stations but this site is a little bit more detailed in its selection process for you. The site breaks down songs by genre, composition of the song, vocal styling, etc. The site shows much love to indie artists. Please check it out:

Last FM

I just started using this radio station and it seems like its a little needy in terms of setup but makes good choices based on your ratings. This one also scans your Itunes or Windwow's play lists and makes choices for you based on the number of times those songs are played. Check it out here:

I love soul/rb music. I feel like I have a strong connection with this genre and I have a friend who has an excellent radio program/podcast. (Plus her radio voice is hmmmm wonderful :)) I had to give her shout out. She always goes deep in her archives and provides you with the best of the best in soul/rb music. Check her out here:

I'm always looking for new music, so if you have any other suggestions, please pass them my way.

Why do I Feel Cheated?

All of those hours spending on my baseball card collections, organizing them by team, position, etc...Spending 3 and 4 hours in front of my tiny black and white TV with the UHF VHF dials watching 9 innings of baseball...bartering or just begging for the right baseball card with all of my friends in order to complete my collection....for what? Its been all a lie.....LIES I tell you. But to tell you the truth, Barry Bonds was quite obvious. I remember him playing with the Pittsburgh Pirates and he was skinny as a rail and then a few years later, BAM, he turned into the Negro Hulk! But Barry, Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, Lenny Dykstra, and Roger Clemens, they all let me down.

I gave up on baseball after they striked for the second time back in the 80's. I kept saying, these are some spoiled, selfish players, so I quit watching the game. But, I had the itch again, I wanted to get back into the stats, figuring who would win the Cy Young award, etc...but thanks to the Mitchell Report.....I have lost interest again. I guess now it will be a matter of time that the NBA and the NFL will be under a nasty cloud of steroid talk. I guess time will tell....

Why Did You Name Your Blog That???

Some new albums coming out today that I am actually interested in either buying or downloading:

Janet Jackson: http://www.janetjackson.com/. The name of the album is "Discipline". Hopefully, JD will pour some of that production luck on this album the same way he did for Mariah Carey.

Erkyah Badu: http://www.erykahbadu.com/ I love this woman! She has never let me down yet. From the sheer name and her past work, I will download this album from Itunes.

Why is the name of my blog, "Let Your Life Do The Singing"? This came from a verse from my Alma mater, Hampton University, and the school song:

“Oh, Hampton, we never can make thee a song, except as our lives do the singing. In service that will thy great spirit prolong, and send it through centuries ringing!"

Everyday, I try to live by this mantra. We live in such a "microwave" society, everything has to be done, given to us, etc. right now and fast, that sometimes we forget that anything worth having takes hard work, and dedication. Never stop learning, and taking the time to help someone else is something that I am always striving to do. You can't make it alone, you just can't. The quicker you realize that, the better off you will be. So, if you are doing the right thing, and trying to help someone else, maybe you can shut up and let you life do the singing.

No More Trips To Best Buy For New Music Tuesday...

Good afternoon.......I love music...I really do but music is terrible these days. Its gotten so bad, that I rather listen to ESPN analyst, Stephen A. Smith podcast every morning, than listen to Sean Kingston, Fergie, or Beyonce for the umpteenth time (even though I always love that Until The End of Time Remix with JT).

I am grateful for my Ipod; it allows me to go back to when music was good: Marvin Gaye, Stevie, or anything from the 70's Motown era, Teddy Pendergrass, Patti Labelle, Chaka with Rufus, or MJ when he had some skin tone. Fast forward a little bit and I love to reminisce on those 80-90's artists that ruled the airwaves: Guy, Teddy Riley and the New Jack movement, Keith Sweat, R. Kelly (pre sex tape), Whitney Houston (pre-crack), Prince, Boyz II Men, when Babyface's songwriting skills ruled the radio, Mint Condition, and all of those damn Neo Artists who are missing in action: D, Erkyah Badu (album next week?), Jaguar Wright, Bilal, Musiq. I can go on but I won't....I will just wait for a few hours, plug in my Itrip FM transmitter, and just kick back to when times were good, while my radio, and 6 disc changer gets no more love from me....

Greetings and Salutations

Greetings to the Blog World!!

First of all I need to thank my good friend "Soulstress" for giving me the push to do this but I am happy to finally be a part of the blogging community! Politics, the drab music scene, crazy celebrities, and new challenge of fatherhood/married life. I hope to keep you entertained as well as informed. Take care!
